3D Graphics
Concept
Architecture
By Jason Josselsohn
To all avid design architects looking for a methodology
to harness the power of technology with out the back
breaking pain of what technology normally dishes out on
large projects. A new era has dawned on the development
of virtual design. The old methods of using 'bumf' or
architectural paper as I know of it overlaying paper
plans and sketching with pencil, still features highly.
In no way would I suggest that all methods should be
eliminated and solely taken over by the computer.
What I have discover is, to use methods of design and
development that fit with your natural flow of energy
and speed of your brain, no more waiting for rendering
just pur design bliss. You see what initially happened
to me is I learned design on a drawing board, and in
those days computers and cad were moving ahead, but 3d
graphics was still in its adolescence, the computer
still took strain up until 2005 things were still pretty
slow. I eventually landed up getting into producing 3d
models & renderings for other architects and Dev
companies and found myself sitting behind a PC,
rendering...hour after hour and day after day ,month
after month, I think it was the most stress-full time of
my life.
The focus of my ability to handle the computer started
to take precedence over my ability to design and the
things that I started worrying about, lighting and
texture mapping where a far cry away from designing. I
missed design enough of photo realism. After a few years
of I joined a commercial firm that specializes in
Shopping Centers Hotels and Apartments on a large scale.
I had at that time before been designing houses, so the
commercial arena for me was new, and a bit intimidating
size wise & construction wise. How was I going to cope
with the shear size of the designs on the P.C. using my
new found methods.
Luckily for me I had been playing around with Sketch-up
and Revit as I had been involved in design of a few
houses that year, and had purchased Revit and downloaded
my trial version of sketch up and learned as much as I
could, I started using the two software's in synergy,
they almost seemed like they were made for each other,
they blended seamlessly, from revit into sketch-up to
visualize and back into revit to touch up and construct
back and forth. I eventually realized that what I was
doing was exactly the same as the back and forth on a
drawing board.
When I was still in university in my first year learned
on the drawing board to overlay touch up rub out and
reinvent, this started happening to me on the screen and
I will show you how I do it, if you are passionate about
design i can show you how to become a super architect,
and give you the design power of ten men 7 take the
stress of time out of your design and presentation
schedule. I have decided to part with my methods & teach
anyone who has the curiosity who has the passion to
design and present their ideas in the work place
effortlessly, and take the pain out of architecture.
Choosing Interior Design Software
By Tom Houser
Interior design students will use interior design
software that the professionals use in their everyday
designing work. A popular program is SmartDraw. With the
program you get thousands of ready-made graphics for
fixtures for the kitchen, bathroom and for furniture.
Other graphics include lighting fixtures, cabinets,
landscape elements and office furniture.
The interior design software also includes textures for
tiled floors, custom cabinetry and granite countertops.
Smartdraw is easy to use software that will help you
create fantastic design plans in minutes. It is quite
fast and easy.
You will be able to design anything with SmartDraw
interior design software such as house and garage plans,
offices, kitchen and bathroom plans and even closet
plans.
The software is a real time saver for the interior
design student and professional. This software is
downloadable and ready to use right away.
SmartDraw interior design software offers free tech
support and examples from professional interior design
plans.
Another interior design software is Microspot Interiors.
This software is designed for the Mac and allows the
user to visualize their plans in 3D. This software is
simple to use for both professionals and do it yourself
home designers.
Microspot Interiors is a interior design software that
is very popular among Mac users because of it's
simplicity and the price tag which is just a fraction of
the cost of most professional design software. The power
of this software allows the user to come up with
unlimited design possibilities. The advanced drawing
tools of the software do most of the work. You can
design the shape of the room and add virtually anything
you want. You can also design the rooms in any
particular size you want. Lighting tools are used to add
sunlight to a room as well.
Microspot Interiors includes hundreds of furniture items
and accessories, many of which were requested by users
in the Microspot users' forum.
Interior design software is used extensively in the
interior design profession. It allows the designer to
virtually look at what their design plan will look like
before implementing it.
Many interior design schools will offer online learning
as part of their curriculum. The online method is
designed so that the student can set their own pace and
style of learning according to what really works best
for them.
Interior design software is very helpful and useful but
it requires a computer with a monitor that has the
capacity for a high resolution that works with complex
graphics. You will also need a lot of space on your hard
drive to save files and to run the program.
It would be a good idea to save your files to a
re-writeable CD or DVD as well for backup.
There are many interior design software programs
available on the market. If you can get a trial copy
then that will give you a chance to test the product
before buying.
Good luck with your search for interior design software.
The Aura of Digital Visual Art
By Ron Strand
The continual crossover and intertwining of art and
information technologies is altering aesthetics and
culture. Mechanical reproduction as a mass culture
replacement for original art still exists, but it is
being replaced, rapidly, by the new media. Digital
production of art, with the inherent ability for
infinite reproduction, is a means to construct a new
type of reality that goes beyond the distinctions of
what is real and what is representational. There is no
longer a distinction between original and copy. There
are works of art that are ever evolving, programmed to
change themselves or changed by observation or by the
intervention of the observer.
Walter Benjamin's concept of the "aura" may be
applicable to an understanding of this evolving context.
A new type of aura may be evolving. Instead of standing
back in awe of great works of art that emit some kind of
aura or hold on us, we are drawn into the illusions of
accessibility and interactivity, into a new aura of the
illusion being the reality. The lines between reality
and illusion become increasing blurred as the same
technologies that are used to create new forms of
illusion are also used to create new forms of physical
space, altering architecture and design of physical
forms.
Visual art has always been a mental construct of cues
and symbols. The progression from the screen of a
stretched canvas to huge canvas of the cinema screen to
the glass screen of the television and the plastic
screen of the computer monitor has been a natural
progression for visual art. The materials used for the
construction vary but the symbols and cues of the
illusion remain similar.
Art produced by computer programs is distinct from art
produced in other media, such as traditional forms of
painting and then transferred to digital format by means
of an electronic scanner. Art that is produced by
computers for display on the Internet has aura, even
though it is reproduced infinitely. Art that exists in a
gallery somewhere, that has aura there, loses that
quality when it is reproduced on the Internet. On the
other hand, art that is produced for the purpose of
being displayed on the Internet has aura on the Internet
but loses its aura when it is reproduced on paper.
Any experience of art is ultimately subjective and there
is really no other way to prove that one work of art has
"aura" and another does not. But my conclusion is that
new media have as much ability to create aura as
original works of art created by more traditional means,
and that this aura is not lost through reproduction, but
rather, recreated over and over again as they bounce
around cyberspace from one computer to another.

A building
has integrity just like a man. And just as
seldom.
Ayn Rand
A city building, you experience when you walk; a
suburban building, you experience when you
drive.
Helmut Jahn
A great building must begin with the
unmeasurable, must go through measurable means
when it is being designed and in the end must be
unmeasurable.
Louis Kahn
A house is a machine for living in.
Le Corbusier
An architect's most useful tools are an eraser
at the drafting board, and a wrecking bar at the
site.
Frank Lloyd Wright
Architects in the past have tended to
concentrate their attention on the building as a
static object. I believe dynamics are more
important: the dynamics of people, their
interaction with spaces and environmental
condition.
John Portman
Architecture arouses sentiments in man. The
architect's task therefore, is to make those
sentiments more precise.
Adolf Loos
Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings
speak for themselves.
Julia Morgan
Architecture is basically a container of
something. I hope they will enjoy not so much
the teacup, but the tea.
Yoshio Taniguchi
Architecture is not an inspirational business,
it's a rational procedure to do sensible and
hopefully beautiful things; that's all.
