3D Rendering
and Animation - Discover the Latest Techniques That Studios Are
Using
By Cody Landon
There are two ends of the spectrum when it comes to animation. Those
who like to watch it and those who like to produce it. Then there is
the aspect of 2D and 3D animation. Popularity is rising with the 3D
because of the realism but that does not mean there is going to be
an end to the 2D.
Animators utilize the 3D rendering techniques to bring their
drawings to life. 2D serves the same purpose but the computer and
its software capabilities have open doors for 3D animation that were
not considered possible. Now with the opportunities afforded by 3D
Flash and online 3D illustration techniques, it has opened a new
world to animation.
Most often, when people ponder animation they relate it to cartoon
animation. It does not just apply to this one sector. Anything that
is made to move is technically animated and not just restricted to
cartoons. A good example of animation is perhaps a 3d floor plans or
any of the 3D building plans you see.
It is easy to see the potential benefits that 3D renderings have on
all kinds of industries and not just the cartoon or movie sectors.
Businesses can now show their capabilities through these 3D
renderings making it a very powerful marketing tool to be used.
It even can go beyond the scope of the business sector and is become
an effective training tool in all kinds of applications as well. As
one sees the scope of 3D opportunities growing its easy to see where
career and employment can become magnified in the industries
requirements for 3D animators. As this grows so, will the
capabilities of the software that is used to reach the outcome of
the renderings.
As more and more individuals take advantage of what the computers
and internet technology can offer them, the greater the need for 3D
rendering and animation is going to be.
Any individual that is involved in animation or hopes to be will
have to be constantly aware of what is available and coming
available by way of 3D software. It must be remembered however that
the renderings will only be as good as the person operating the
software to create them is. Artistic skills and their fundamentals
are a requirement for the animator. If he does not have these skills
then he is not able to just the quality and performance of the
ratings. It is most likely the job requirements will not be met and
the animator will not keep his position.
So not only does an aspiring animator have to have good artistic
skills, proper training but also has to grow as the technology in
the industry grows. By doing this, one is sure to keep up with the
advanced and latest techniques of 3D rendering. It these types of
format that will open the doors of employment not only at the entry
level but also as a means of climbing the corporate ladder. This is
the place where any individual who wants a career in animation
strives for.
3D Animation Is Everywhere
By Reggie Rocca
The talent required to create animation is a fantastic gift.
Actually, the creators of animation enjoy it, just as much as the
audience. Previously, the most creative ones, were created through
2D animation, but currently because of the development of 3D
technology it made possible a much better quality and it is also
easier to produce. 3D technology gives the realism of real live, as
a contrast to the advanced technological implementation of computing
technology, making it fabulous for the audience.
Similarly to a constructor who lays foundations for a house,
animations begin with a base or foundation, enabling animators to
create and build on concepts or ideas they previously have produced.
As soon as they are pleased with the developed ideas, they can focus
their efforts on using 3D rendering processes to 'give life' to
their animations. The 3D rendering processes used by animators is
what in fact makes a big difference. They are responsible for
turning something good into something marvelous.
Online 3D illustrations and 3D Flash suffered great modifications
over the last five, six years or so. Previously, although the
software resources were available, they had a great cost.
Consequently, for the animators to create a piece would have to make
a major investment for the software to be up and running. Currently,
software is more affordable and more capable, offering many
opportunities for both new and experienced animators.
A general false impression is that animation is only used in kids
programs or in cartoons. It is in fact a huge mistake, as virtually
anything that is manipulated using computer technology is considered
animation. This includes creating plans made into 3D or creating a
virtual car design. Animators don't work just in cartoons, but also
in numerous industries.
3D animations really took of in cartoons, where is a new use for it.
Various businesses across the world are presenting their expertise
and supremacy in their area by making different 'flash' services or
products making them distinctive using 3D animation. One concluding
example from this point of view would be the various marketing
companies that use a lot of external help for their company,
services or products to look a bit superior. Naturally, 3D animation
and rendering processes are precisely what they should apply if this
is what they want to obtain. When you next look at a marketing
company, or to any other company that sells products, observe if
their brochure or website is eye-catching, and if so, is it because
of the use of 3D animation? The implementation of animation
rendering techniques will allow them to offer a new and improved
look of their company and to differentiate them from the others.
Where else can we found such 3D animation rendering techniques?
Are you a teacher or have you been a student? Well, we all know that
there are numerous ways an individual can learn new information.
Typically, most students (regardless of the topic) have a very good
response to such visual resources as pictures, books or other visual
resources based on computer. In fact, due to the current popularity
of computers and internet, there is really no need for a teacher. As
an alternative, attractive and educative courses can be created to
be used through a computer and then turn into something more
pleasant to the eye applying 3D animation rendering techniques.
Where is 3D animation heading to? 3D animation, just as virtually
any other industry is evolving very fast. Thus, a rendering
techniques prefect today could be easily useless the next day.
Software is the main factor in making excellent 3D animation. Any
person wanting to join the industry or are involved already, need to
recognize what is hot and what not, or they will be left behind.
Keep in mind that software is not doing the work for you and the
final product is going to be only as good as the one at the computer
using rendering techniques.
Initially, 3D animation was in fact an operating software, but
currently due to the advanced technological features and techniques
that can be applied, it has become much more than that. As the
software operator is more artistic and creative, the chances are
higher for the final product to be a stunning success. Extremely
powerful animations can be created with remarkable creativity,
relevant experience in the arts industry as well as the expertise to
operate great 3D animation software, implementing the right
rendering techniques.
What Does It Take to Be an Animator?
By Art Saborio
The animation career has similarities. 3 D animation jobs and the 2
D animation job skill sets are fairly close when planning and
starting an animation project. The basic algorithms that both 2 D
and 3 D animation based themselves on are similar no matter the
tools or methods being used. The similarities are most clear when
conducting work within a wire frame format. The computer animated 3
D environment is powerful, yet each skill relies on the other to get
the desired effect.
Kinds of Animation
A perfect example is lighting. Both use the same concepts to create
lighting effects. Another example is rendering techniques. Both use
rendering techniques taught in 2 D. The differences start to show
once the object or character after rendering has occurred. At this
time the 3 D visual aspects break away from their 2 D cousin. In
order to understand 3 D animation, it is critical you first master
the 2 D aspect.
3D animation training and working with characters to bring them to
life is not as easy as it seems. Yet with practice, anyone can
create visual effects that can rival the big animation studios.
Working with an in-depth knowledge of 2 D graphics and 3 D
animation, you can easily create website, design products, and
create video games that are polished and professional looking. To
get to this level takes a good understanding of graphics and an even
stronger knowledge of computer software.
High End Graphic Software
If you plan to use some of the high-end branded software like 3 D
Studio Max or Maya, there will be a very large learning curve. Other
skills that come in handy are those that make use Photoshop. Knowing
how to manipulate 2 D drawings and photos come in handy for the
animator. A person can easily gain this experience by taking a few
classes at the many universities and trade schools which teach the
subject. Usually all computer animation courses will start with a 2
D course work and work their way into 3 D animation or the digital
arts. Another option is to find the animation information online. At
no time in history has it ever been easier to find good solid
animation education online. Give it a try to see what is available.
The Basics - What You Need To Know To Begin
1) Creation of primary characters by using the bouncing ball
principle.
2) Understanding the anatomy of the character and setting models
with the help of knowledge in proportions.
3) Color theory knowledge.
4) Bone structure and skin textures.
5) Color rendering.
Know These To Begin Competing Against Other Animators
1) Modeling the character and understanding the mesh tool.
2) Shading skills.
3) Sketching and rigging skills.
4) Computer software knowledge and making use of it.
Top Dog Skills - Advanced Hardcore 3D Animation Skills
1) Conceptualizing an animation along with facial features and
creating full fleshed characters.
2) Making short animation movie.
3) Shading, lighting and rendering using layers.
4) Giving the last fluid effect. This is the art of using all the
packages together along with sketching to get the perfect in 3d
animation.
5) If you are lucky enough to master all the skills above, you may
find yourself with an amazing job. Some of the top animators work
for Disney, Pixar and DreamWorks, with a little hard work, you may
one day work for one of the three.
How Are Animations Produced? The Guide To 3D and 2D Animations
By Cody Landon
Animation is defined as the rapid display of a sequence of images in
order to create an illusion of movement. There are several
techniques used in animation, namely traditional animation, stop
motion animation, and computer animation. Nowadays, computer
animation seems to be the way to go whether it be for a motion
picture, video program or any other means of presenting animation.
Computer animation covers a plethora of techniques, with the
unifying factor being that it is digitally created on a computer.
There are two kinds of computer animation, namely 2D and 3D
animation.
2D figures are created on the computer using 2D bitmap graphics or
vector graphics. This includes computerized versions of a number of
traditional animations techniques. 3D animation is digitally modeled
and manipulated by an animator. While the results of the two
techniques vary greatly, 3D animation actually relies on many of the
same algorithms used in 2D.
A lot goes in to making a 3D animation, namely a variety of
algorithms, mathematical functions, simulated fur or hair, effects
such as fire and water and so much more. These can be achieved by
using different techniques, including photo realism, cel-shaded and
motion capture.
Photo realism is used mainly if the animator's goal is for the
animation to resemble real life. Using advanced rendering
techniques, an animator can make detailed skin, plants, water, fire,
clouds and just about everything under the sun, as close to real
life as they can. Cel-shaded animations is used to mimic traditional
animation using computer graphics software. It can make shading look
stark and lessen the blending of colors. Motion capture is when a
live actor wears a special suit that allows computer to copy their
movements into computer generated characters. And that's just a few
of the techniques that fall under 3D dynamics. I believe that this
is what makes it so popular these days.
3D techniques allow us to create a virtual world in which characters
and objects move and interact. These techniques, when applied one on
top of the other, also allows the images to seem more realistic. It
is for this reason that many 3D animations are used as visual
effects for movies, or make up whole movies, that have been released
for the better part of the past decade.
